Nvidia revealed its new RTX 3000 line of Ampere-powered GPU earlier this month, featuring the RTX 3090, 3080, and 3070 cards. The new 3000 series is the second generation of RTX graphics cards that will run features like real-time ray tracing with much higher performance than current RTX cards. Here's what we know about each card so far, including specs, price, release date, and more. Coming in at $1199 for the 3080 Ti and $599 for the 3070 Ti, these graphics cards are notably more expensive than the base models they are meant to represent upgrades over.
In regards to the RTX 3080 Ti, it seems quite expensive at first glance, though equivalently priced to Nvidia's 2080 Ti flagship from the previous generation. However, its specs are comparable to the $1,500 RTX 3090 with the main difference being that it features half of the VRAM. That shouldn't be a problem for most games though, as the RTX 3090 boasts that much VRAM for professional apps like Blender. As for the RTX 3070 Ti, it will feature an upgrade to GDDR6X memory along with more cores and a higher TDP.
The RTX 3080 Ti will deliver a 50% improvement in performance over the RTX 2080 Ti at 4K resolution, according to Nvidia's benchmarks. The company released a gameplay video of Doom Eternal running at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution on an RTX 3080 Ti; you can watch it on YouTube. Firstly, it has about 17% more CUDA cores and RT cores than the RTX 3080. Secondly, it comes with 12GB of GDDR6X RAM, along with a 20% increase in bandwidth, giving creators and gamers an additional boost. However, the latest Nvidia graphics card also consumes about 10% more power than the previous model.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti has a pixel rating of 186.5G Pixels/s and a texture rating of 532.8 GTexels/s. Both the video cards possess excellent Ray Tracing, DLSS and AI capabilities, support Direct X 12 Ultimate, and are VR ready. American graphics company Nvidia has unveiled two new graphics cards during the ongoing Computex 2021.
The Founders Edition version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 3080 Ti is priced at $1,199 , while the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Founders Edition is priced at $599 . The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is the top-of-the-line graphics card and is said to be twice as fast as the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti that was launched a few years ago, and is 50 percent faster than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, on the other hand, is twice as fast as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti and 1.5 times as fast as the GeForce RTX 2070 Super. Nvidia also announced that the number of games and applications that support ray tracing and/or DLSS has now grown to 130, with new entrants including Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2, Rainbow 6 Siege, and Icarus. Fortnite, which already supports RTX technologies, will be getting a new Titanium City map which features a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card as its backdrop, to mark the product launch. Nvdia has also worked with Orbx to release a free mod for Microsoft Flight Simulator that enhances Tapei's downtown Xinyi district, to celebrate the spirit of Computex 2021.
That's a huge difference, but Control hits the RTX cards right where it matters most. So the extra video memory in the 3080 Ti is more adept at rendering a 4K scene with ray tracing and graphics set to maximum with no DLSS. Of course, the 80 RT cores and 10,240 CUDA cores also make a huge difference. The reality is that Control is now very playable at 4K with max settings for RTX even before you turn on DLSS thanks to the 3080 Ti. However, with the current GPU stock shortage, we expect the supply of these new cards to be limited. Seems odd that Nvidia would launch new GPUs when there is a major shortage of the current crop of graphics cards.
Additionally, we've also seen inflated GPU prices due to the stock shortage, so these prices might likely go up unless you can find a Founder Edition card. Nvidia's new RTX 3080 Ti graphics card is now theoretically available, now that we've reached the 2PM UK time , 3rd June 2021 release date. Obviously, we're all aware of the state of the graphics card market right now, so all we can do is suggest places that might have stock if you happen to check them at the right time. Anyway, our RTX 3080 Ti review shows that this card is neck-and-neck with the more expensive RTX 3090, making it a far better option for most people - although the original RTX 3080 continues to offer much better value overall. In this article, we'll share the best places in the US and UK to pick up your new RTX 3080 Ti. Support for both ray tracing and DLSS is on the way for games such as Doom Eternal, Icarus , and Lego Builder's Journey, whereas Red Dead Redemption 2 and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege are getting DLSS only.
The Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti is one of the most powerful graphics cards I've tested in quite some time, offering stellar 4K performance across the board, even with ray tracing graphics settings on. But its price makes it a very expensive luxury, with better value found elsewhere. Godfall is a large-scale open-world action RPG, full of reflective surfaces and advanced light effects. Unlike Control, it's optimised to run ray tracing on AMD, rather than Nvidia graphics cards, which is the reason it doesn't support DLSS at the moment.
Here, the 3080 Ti once again proved capable of running the game at playable frame rates across every resolution. The Ampere architecture comes off the heels of the Turing-based RTX 20 series which first introduced real-time ray tracing and AI capabilities in graphics hardware. Those video cards feature multiple processing cores to manage the heavy workload and make things like high-performance ray tracing in games and DLSS (AI-based supersampling). If you see the spec sheet of both RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3090, you won't find much difference, except memory. Generally, "Ti" is used for a card that is an upgrade over the base variant and sits between two cards.
But, RTX 3080 Ti is very close to RTX 3090 in terms of performance, specs, and price rather than RTX 3080. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti has a clock speed of up to 1.67GHz and features 10,240 CUDA cores and 80 GPU clusters. The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, on the other hand, comes with a boost clock speed of 1.77GHz along with 6,144 CUDA cores and 48 RT cores. There are second-generation RT cores and third-gen Tensor cores on both new graphics cards.
The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti supports 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM with a 384-bit interface, while the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti has 8GB of VRAM on a 256-bit bus. The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti uses 350W of power while the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti consumes up to 220W, according to Nvidia. Nvidia launched its most powerful desktop graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, at the ongoing Computex 2021. Demand for the 3080 Ti will likely match that of the 3080 — at least among hardcore gamers.
This is a powerful, 4K graphics card with a suite of great features as well as enough speedy GDDR6X memory to demolish productivity tasks and ray tracing workloads. The RTX 3080 Ti clocks at up to 1.67GHz and brings 10,240 CUDA cores and 80 GPU clusters. RTX 3070 Ti has a boost clock speed of 1.77Ghz with 6,144 CUDA cores and 48 RT core.
Both graphics cards come with second-generation RT cores and third-gen Tensor cores. RTX 3080 Ti gets 12GB GDDR6X VRAM with a 384-bit interface while the 3070 Ti comes with 8GB at 256-bits instead. If you desire ultra performance in gaming, ray-traced workloads, rendering, and GPU-accelerated applications, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is the graphics card for you. Even though the market is full of scalpers demanding utterly unreasonable amounts of money for relatively old and weak graphics cards, Nvidia goes ahead and ramps up the price of its RTX3080Ti by $200 overnight. No one can make me believe that Nvidia ramped up the price due to the logistical difficulties posed by COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
At the height of the pandemic, when there was no vaccine whatsoever, the price for this card was announced as $999. But to be fair, the chip crisis is worse now compared to November 2020, so Nvidia may as well cite it as a reason for this price hike. But still, it does not make any sense to ramp up the price of a premium card that is absolutely guaranteed to sell fewer units than the $300 cheaper – but nearly as capable – RTX 3080.
Much like the high-end cards are all based on the same GA102 GPU, the 3070 Ti, 3070 and 3060 Ti are all derived from the GA104 GPU, with active cores, memory configs etc. defining performance and price. The 3070 Ti effectively represents the best you can get from a GA104, with every core active and running at a high clock speed. The only way NVIDIA could've made the 3070 Ti stronger would have been to base it on the GA102, which is a far larger chip that costs NVIDIA more money. To find out exactly how the RTX 3080 Ti stacks up against the rest of today's best graphics cards, you can read all about it in my full RTX 3080 Ti review. The Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti is a powerhouse graphics card that delivers an excellent 4K ray tracing performance.
If you can afford its steep up-front cost then it's an excellent choice for any hardcore gamer looking for top-of-the-line performance. However, the gains you get compared to the base RTX 3080, which costs a lot less, make it a hard sell for gamers who don't need the best performance possible in 4K. Anthony joined the TweakTown team in 2010 and has since reviewed 100s of graphics cards. Anthony is a long time PC enthusiast with a passion of hate for games built around consoles. As the Nvidia Computex 2021 event has taken place, we've got the full rundown on what we can expect from the RTX 3080 Ti. The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is expected to launch by the start of June for an MSRP of around $599 US. The graphics cards will rock the latest mining hash rate limiter which is supposedly hard to crack compared to the initial release which was bypassed within a few days. Apart from the new graphic cards, Nvidia also announced that 130 games and applications now support ray tracing and/or DLSS. The new entrants using ray tracing and/or DLSS are Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2, Rainbow 6 Siege, and Icarus. The American GPU-maker also showcased some new and recently launched gaming and productivity laptops that feature GeForce RTX GPUs.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and the RTX 3070 Ti will go on sale around the world on June 3 and June 10 respectively. No one's going to bat an eye paying an extra $200 for the hottest new graphics card, especially when older cards have been selling for double the retail price in secondary markets. In other words, Nvidia knew it could charge more and effectively sell out of its stock. Nvidia's bottom line doesn't distinguish between scalpers and actual gamers. Nvidia's official recommended retail prices for the RTX 3080 start at $1200/£1050/€1200. Nvidia's RTX 3000 series desktop graphics cards are launched and officially available, but finding one is a huge challenge.
The latest card, the RTX 3070 Ti was officially launched on June 3rd but was still showing as "coming soon" on most official stores even an hour after launch. And this follows continuing stock issues with the company's flagship RTX 3080, high-end RTX 3090 and mid-range RTX 3070, all of which were gone within minutes on launch day and have been hard to find ever since. The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is already one of the best graphics cards on the market right now. There have always been rumors that Nvidia was preparing a 20GB variant of the Ampere-based graphics card.
A new firmware and YouTube video seemingly confirm the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 20GB's existence. For the record, Katharine wasn't so keen on the card when she tested it for the official RPS RTX 3080 Ti review - but I have a slightly different opinion. It's my view that pretty much any Founders Edition card sold at RRP is a reasonable value, given that third-party RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3090 cards are selling for anywhere from £1500 to £2000 or more. So, getting a nigh-identical level of performance at a bit over £1000 will make sense for a small subset of people that have a significant PC budget but haven't been able to find stock of a high-end GPU at a sane price before now. The RTX 3080 Ti, which Nvidia described in its announcement as its "new gaming flagship," will be released worldwide on Thursday, June 3, for $1,199.
That's the same price as the RTX 2080 Ti, the highest-end GPU in Nvidia's initial line of graphics cards capable of real-time ray tracing, which debuted in September 2018. (The price is what Nvidia will charge for the Founders Edition of its GPU; cards from third parties will start at that level and go up from there.) It's also $300 lower than the cost of the massive RTX 3090. There are two more Nvidia RTX 30 graphics cards on the way this month, the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti. Announced earlier this week as part of Nvidia's Computex 2021 keynote , the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti take their place as Nvidia's new flagship gaming GPUs for 2021.
Here's everything you need to know, including where you can buy one, what time they go on sale, their prices, specs and respective release dates. However, I'd still recommend most gamers, who don't have expensive 4K gaming monitors or TVs with HDMI 2.1, to invest in a cheaper GPU such as the RTX 3070, RTX 3060 Ti or AMD RX 6700 XT. These offer more than enough power for 1080p or 1440p gaming and retail for a fraction of the price. And if none of these sound like the right fit, then you can see a curated pick of the best graphics cards we've tested in this handy guide. With LHR being right now successful, the new graphics cards are not that worth the price as the previous ones for miners. However, the problem with the scalpers still persist and it will take some time for the GPU prices to become stable.
We also got a sneak peek at what performance of an Ampere-based RTX card will perform compared to current-gen cards, and the gains are shown to be significant. The more budget-friendly RTX 3070 is even said slightly outperform the RTX 2080 Ti and at about half the price, too. The beastly RTX 3090 is said to be 50% faster than the enthusiast-tier Titan RTX card. The graph below compares Turing and Ampere performance across a number of games, including Control. The new "Ampere" architecture-based GPU launched last year with lots of new and improved features. Features like second-generation Ray Tracing, third-generation tensor cores, improved DLSS, etc.
Nvidia also packed lots of Cuda cores in 3000 series cards thus require more power to run. At Computex 2021, Nvidia launched two graphics card from Jensen kitchen. RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti, was expected for a long time, especially 3080Ti. However, Nvidia has done weird work in terms of the price and specs of the RTX 3080 Ti, which kept it in the wrong spot. In the middle of the current GPU shortage, news of Nvidia's RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti should be something many gamers get excited about. Many gamers, however, may be curious about availability considering the current shortages.
With release dates and pricing information, gamers can only hope that the release of these new Ti series cards will allow them to get their hands on a new RTX 3000 series GPU this year. Despite all of that trouble, Nvidia hasn't stopped churning out new RTX 30 models over the past year. Following the likes of the RTX 3050, 3050 Ti, and 3060, Nvidia has now taken the wraps off of the RTX 3080 Ti.
It's the successor to the already powerful RTX 3080, offers very similar performance to that highest-end RTX 3090 card, and comes in at a price to match its abilities. Nvidia says the RTX 3080 Ti will cost $1,119 when it goes on sale on June 3. If it's like any of the other RTX 30 cards that have come out so far, don't be surprised if the 3080 Ti becomes just as elusive as its older siblings. Here's a breakdown of all the specs compared to the standard versions of the RTX 3080 and 3070.
All in all, these graphics cards look to offer good product segmentation of the RTX 30 Series for those who want a little more or a little less performance than preexisting offerings. As rumoured, Nvidia has unveiled the new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti desktop graphics cards at Computex 2021. Both are powered by the current-gen Ampere architecture and of course support Nvidia's DLSS upscaling technique as well as ray tracing, Reflex latency tuning, and more. Still, the RTX 3080 Ti, which is designed as a true heir to the prior gen's RTX 2080 Ti, is priced exactly the same as its predecessor.
In fact, when the cost of inflation is factored in, the $1,199 RTX 2080 Ti from its 2018 launch would cost $1,261 today, making the RTX 3090 some $60 less expensive! Nvidia really has little incentive to go any cheaper given historic pricing. The RTX 3080 Ti is Nvidia's latest premium GPU, coming it just below the RTX 3090 in both price and power. We had some issues with the founders edition fan speed in our review, and questioned whether gamers would be better served by just opting for an RTX 3090. Still, there's no doubting that this is a powerhouse, as evidenced by how sold out it is. The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti features Nvidia's Ethereum anti-mining limiter so the graphics card's mining performance hovers around the 55 to 65 MH/s range .
So, basically, Nvidia expects you to fork out $1,199 dollars for the Ti version, instead of $699 for the normal one, in return for a measly 15% increase in performance – at most. That's more than $33 for every percent of performance increase you get. And it's not even close to being fair, not even considering the severe graphics card shortage the tech scene is experiencing so far. The RTX 3080 Ti isn't a bad graphics card by any stretch, far from it. It's just that the RTX 3080 is a really great one, especially at the price at which it first launched.
If the card market stabilizes in 2021, a $699 version of an RTX 3080 will still be the best thing to happen to 4K gaming yet, perhaps surpassed in certain situations only by the equally stellar GeForce RTX 3070. Synthetic benchmarks can be good predictors of real-world gaming performance. UL's circa-2013 Fire Strike Ultra is still a go-to as an approximation of the load levied by mainstream 4K gaming.
